Bergwood is a family run business, started in 2000 and is owned by Brendon and Lee Hughes. Brendon is responsible for sales, design and factory and Lee also does sales and runs the accounts side of the business. Bergwood was originally a manufacturer only and supplied various retail shops in the KZN and Gauteng. In 2009, Bergwood halted the supply of furniture to retail outlets to concentrate on designing the furniture we wanted to make. While solid wood furniture has always been Bergwood’s main focus, various free standing kitchens were designed along the way as well, which led to the re-starting of the fitted kitchen side of the business due to the demand for a quality local supplier. Our ability to manufacture in both solid wood and man-made products, such as supawood and melamine, allows us the unique opportunity to supply products across the home, from kitchens and bathrooms to lounge and dining furniture. We manufacture free standing kitchen units with wooden or granite tops. Free standing kitchens have become extremely popular given the flexibility they offer, not only being able to re-arrange your kitchen as you please, but finally families can take their kitchen with them when they move homes. We also manufacture and fit fixed kitchen units and built-in-cupboards available in a variety of designs and finishes. We therefore also offer an eco-friendly range of finishes, minimising the need for the Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) used by most of our competitors to protect furniture. When ordering furniture, the customer may choose a finish that suits them best, from a virually maintenance free finish to a natural oil protection that improves with time. While we prefer our woods’ natural beauty, we do offer a range of colour stains for those looking for a particular shade to blend in with existing pieces. Our clients have individual tastes and preferences and fortunately we have the flexibility and expertise to offer clients bespoke products made to their unique specifications.
